About 0.5% of the population - or one person in 200 has some form of hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis is caused by over-activity of one type of the sweat gland called the eccrine gland. These glands are found all over the body's surface but they are most frequent on the palms of hands, soles of feet and in the armpits.
What happens during a course of treatment with Botox?
Using a very fine needle our medical practitioner will inject of small amounts of Botox into the area. A treatment usually take about 30 minutes.
How soon does Hyperhidrosis work and how long will it last?
You will notice improvement within the first week after your treatment. The treatment usually last for an average of 7 months - however in many cases it can last up to 9-12 months.
How effective is Hyperhidrosis?
Different people have different responses to treatment. In a clinical trial the average reduction in sweat production after one week was 87%.
The injection is made only into the skin so the effects of Botox will be limited to the nerves supplying the sweat glands. Because Botox is a protein there is a small chance of flu like symptoms (tiredness, mild fever, muscle aches) may occur but will disappears within a few days.
